Sobre o concerto

Songs Without Words is a journey through the presence of women in the Baroque musical world, introducing some of the female composers and performers who managed to establish themselves in a musical landscape marked by evident male dominance.

Their professional careers were made possible by very specific circumstances, which often constituted the only gateways for women into the world of the arts: through family connections, as in the case of Francesca Caccini, daughter of Giulio Caccini, or Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre; or within religious contexts such as convents and orphanages, as was the case with Antonia Bembo and Isabella Leonarda.

In many cases, the support and patronage of other women, who occupied positions of power and influence, were also crucial in making these careers possible. Thus, Songs Without Words brings to light individual stories that reveal the presence and voice of women in Baroque music.
